With only three days left in the hectic build season, Team PyroTech demoed both their 2011 Logomotion robot named the Phoenix and their new 2012 robot for Rebound Rumble, which is still unnamed.
FLL regional competitions were held on two consecutive weekends at Southeast Raleigh High school.
The FIRST Robotics Competition is a unique varsity 'sport for the mind' designed to help young people discover the interesting and rewarding aspects of engineering and research, while challenging teams and their mentors to solve problems in a six-week timeframe using a standard Kit of Parts and a common set of rules.
Team PyroTech won the Rookie All-Star Award at the NC Regionals which qualified us for a spot in the FRC Championships in St. Louis, MO. It was quite an event. There were 352 teams in 4 divisions. We were in the Curie division. We weren't very competitive on the field, but we were told we were in the top 4 for the National Rookie All-Star Award. There was also a free concert by will.i.am and The Black Eyed Peas. Sorry, no pictures from that.
The 2011 game was called Logomotion, and the details and some animations can be found on FIRST's main site.

Tom Settle bought a 2010 kit of parts and has been kind enough to work through the assembly of the basic robot with our fledgling team. Here are pictures from the first session where the team assembled the chassis with the help of some of the members from the Hawktimus Prime team.
Marie Hopper and representatives from several of the area FRC teams spoke about FIRST and FRC. Ben Whipker from our team was brave enough to represent our new team, Team PyroTech.
Ken Boone was gracious enough to share his experience and collection of robots with Team Pyrotech at LORD Corporation. He also walked us through his team activity, Organic Robot. More information about Ken Boone is available at Ken's Robots.
Several members from Team Pyrotech assisted with the FLL competition as referees, YAMs and as scorekeeper.
